FAQ

What about Privacy?
Your privacy is very important to us. We have soft music playing to help muffle sound. We will speak in whispers, take your pulse and look at your tongue in the treatment room. Generally these diagnostic tools are sufficient in finding the right diagnosis for you, so very little talking is needed. If youʼd feel more comfortable discussing your current situation with the acupuncturist privately, please let them know and they will arrange a time to do so in person, via email, or over the phone.

How frequently should I come in?
The frequency of your visits will be dependent upon your personal situation. Treating acute conditions will usually require you to come in several days in a row while more chronic conditions may take longer to treat. Generally itʼs best to plan on coming in once or, better yet, twice a week for a month. At that time we will reevaluate you and give you an updated treatment plan.

Does it hurt?
Acupuncture needles are a one-time use stainless steel hair-thin needle, unlike the hollow hypodermic needles most of us are familiar with at the doctorʼs office. In fact, you can fit about 15 of these teeny needles in one hypodermic needle! You may feel a small poke as the needle is inserted. Some people also experience a dull ache or heavy sensation. Generally these sensations are momentary and once all the needles are in place, a feeling of euphoria fills the body and relaxation occurs.

What does acupuncture treat?

Do you take insurance?
No, we do not. Because we offer a sliding scale, we are not allowed to bill the insurance companies. If you have insurance that covers acupuncture and wish to use it, we are happy to provide you a receipt to mail in yourself. This is okay with the insurance companies.

How long does a treatment last?
In our clinic we allow you to take the time you need to feel “complete” in your treatment. Although treatment times vary from person to person, most people stay an hour to an hour and a half, but occasionally more time is desired. Patients have an innate sense of when they feel done, which is usually described as a rested or alert feeling. Often people fall asleep during their treatment. If you do fall asleep, we will not wake you unless you have specifically requested to be woken at a certain time. If you need something or are ready to go, open your eyes and give your acupuncturist a meaningful look and they will come over to check on you.
